Birth Place

As I was enrolling at TU Darmstadt 3.5 years ago, I filled out a some form about my person. Among other questions, I was asked to specify my place of Birth. I wrote "Moscow". I had three good reasons to do so. Firstly, it is true. Secondly, That's what my passport says. Thirdly, it's quite a famous city and you should not be supposed to specify the country when you name it. It turned out, I was wrong.

As I was about to receive my graduation diploma, the following problem arose. In the English version, I was described as "born in Schweden". That would make two errors in the same word. I complained, and my diploma was sent away to some higher bureaucratic offices. From there, I was informed that the source of the confusion was my bad handwriting. Somehow, they thought "Moscaw" would be a city in Sweden. Did anyone ever heard of such a city? Well, at least Google Maps didn't. Instead, it would try to help you out: "Did you mean: Russian Federation, Moscow". But of course I understand them. They don't use Google Maps. And I agree, it's really confusing. In such an international university as TU Darmstadt, I'm surely the first student to hold a dual citizenship.

Anyway, all problems are solvable. I was asked to go come to the university office and show my passport. Now they believe I am born in Russia. But I am afraid this did not solve the second problem. If that's correct, the next version of my diploma would put me as "born is Rußland". As they told me, the text was generated automatically, so they weren't really able to change it. Surely, I am the first student at TU Darmstadt who asks for an English version of the diploma.

Blog Photos

Blogging has many nice sides. One of them is, you can write whatever you want to. Well, at least if you are like me and you don't care whether people reading it would like it not. Maybe I should, but I really don't.

Anyway, I had a really nice topic to write about today. I use to illustrate my posts with pictures that I either take myself, or find somewhere in the web. This time, the post was supposed to contain a self made picture. The problem that appeared to me as I was turning on my camera: My batteries were empty and I was unable to do the shot.

Of course, the problem was solvable. For instance, I could use my mobile phone to take the picture. But I think I was to lazy for that. Then I would need to find the mini-card, copy the photo to it, then find the SD-adapter and bla bal lab. The pictures are not that good with the phone camera either.

To make the long story short: I choose a simple way to solve the problem. I thought: When you have a problem making you unable to write a post, write about that problem. So that's what I'm doing in this post.

And, well, the main post itself comes in a few days when I have bought new batteries.

Discovering Fish

This year, I have discovered fish. It wasn't even a rediscovery. Of course I new that fish existed. I even ate it when someone made it for me. But since I started cooking myself, I kind of never thought of making fish. Well, I may have tried it a few times. But as nothing good came out of it, I dropped the idea at the very beginning.

Now I have discovered that fish can be dealt with. And I really want to go on and improve my skills...

Физики...

По случаю того, что учёбу я закончил, а работать ещё не начал, у меня имеется в наличии много свободного времени. Это предоставляет мне уникальную возможность, заниматься вещами, которые я уже давно хотел сделать, но на которые у меня раньше не было времени.

Получилось так, что единственная вещь, которую я давно хотел сделать, но для которой не требуется кучи денег -- это выучить C++. Поэтому я взял в библиотеке толстую книжку и занимаюсь теперь по ней. Для этого я обычно езжу в библиотеку физфака. О ней почти никто не знает, поэтому там всегда есть свободные места. А дома заниматься не получается, слишком близко до кухни и до кровати.

Так вот, сидел я так на днях в библиотеке, занимался. Дочитал главу, выполнил задания и хотел со спокойной совестью идти домой. Тем более что уже давно было время обеда. И вот, я отрываю взгляд от книги и монитора и вижу, что за соседнем столом сидит моя знакомая -- тоже физик, только со второго курса. Сидит и занимается -- у них беднянг скоро сессия. Обращаюсь я к ней и оказывается, что она тоже меня только что заметила. Сколько мы так сидели рядом -- не знаю. И тупо смотрели в учебники. Физики, называется...

Чем-то напоминает "Приключея Шурика"...

Alliance

The annual service of the evangelical alliance of Darmstadt was held in the Darmstadtium congress center for the first time. A really nice experience. Over 2000 people from more than 20 different congregations were present.

Доброта

Меня давно поражало, насколько немцы быстро расчищают снег. Не успел он ещё до конца пройти, на расчитстили ещё автомобильную дорогу, не начал снег даже ещё таять -- выходят на улицу люди с лопатами и расчищают тротуар. Притом людьми этими как ни странно в основном являются старенькие бабушки. Ну, думал я, просто немцы, как известно, люди дисциплинированные и добрые. Раз можно почистить дорожку перед домом -- из доброты душевной -- то почему бы и нет. Правда, чистил почему-то каждый всегда только свой участок -- вдоль всего дома, но ни миллиметром дальше.

Всё оказалось гораздо проще. Просто у немцев есть закон, возлагающий на жильцов юридическую ответственность за тротуар перед домом. Если там кто-то подскользнётся и что-нибудь себе сломает -- ответственны за это проживающие в доме граждане...

Пойти мне тоже что-ли почистить снег?

Schlussnote

Ich habe heute die Schlussnote für mein Mastestudium erfahren.

Schon früher habe ich mir die folgenden Ansätze gemacht, wie ich auf die Note reagieren werde:

1,3: Ich freue mich sehr.
1,7: Ich bin zufrieden.
2,0: Ich hab's verdient.

Für meine Masterarbeit habe ich dann 1,3 bekommen (was mich natürlich sehr freut). Das hat meine Gesamtnote weit nach oben auf 1,7 verschoben. Also bin ich sehr zufrieden.

Grund zu feiern? Ja, aber erst wenn ich dadurch eine gute Arbeit kriege.
